Did you find ePsychologist service useful for you?

' Each person's map of the world is as unique as their thumbprint. There are no two people alike...no two people who understand the same sentence the same way...
So in dealing with people try not to fit them to your concept of what they should be'
- Milton Erickson -

About

ePsychologist provides help, advice, support through a special module to which one has to log in:

Responding specialist will help you understand and cope with a problem. However he/she will not solve the problem for you and will not make any decision for you – he/she is there to support you, to accompany you in difficult situation, and to give you advice.

Advice via Internet is an alternative to traditional contact with MH specialist. It can help dealing with some mental health and life difficulties, but it will not replace a face-to-face contact with MH professional. Sometimes you might receive suggestion where you can go to receive appropriate help and support from a specialist when he/she decides that you will benefit from face-to-face contact.

Advantages of on-line psychological help

  • It is up to a you how often and how much time you will spend on queries send to us
  • You control the content of all the information that you send to ePsychologist – you can make as many corrections to your e-mail as you want
  • You can contact ePsychologist from home and you don’t need to spend time on travelling to psychologist’s office (it is especially valid advantage for those who might not be able to travel, who are disabled, and for those who are carers)
  • On-line psychological help is cheaper than traditional face-to-face contact with psychologist or psychotherapist
  • Many people find it easier to verbalize their problems in writing as well as indirect contact with psychologist decreases the embarrassment that some people experience in direct contact
  • Writing about our problems itself is therapeutic and it allows us  to become distant from many experiences, behaviours and emotions
  • Some people feel safer when they don’t have to be in direct contact with therapist and they find it easier to talk about their problems

Disadvantages of on-line psychological help

  • You have to know how to use computer equipment to use on-line psychological help
  • Usually you have to wait to receive an answer from psychologist – immediate reaction from psychologist is often impossible
  • Lack of non-verbal information (for example: gestures, tone of the voice). It is the main argument against on-line psychological help. In a traditional form of contact with psychologist or psychotherapist non-verbal hints and behaviours are equally important with verbal information
  • It has an impact on quality of interpersonal relationship, physical intimacy – having a sense of being listened to is very important and usually has therapeutic results. Lack of direct contact can result in lack of sense of being listened to and lack of psychologist’s emotional involvement in our story
  • Fear that someone else can hack the computer or see our e-mail
  • Uncertainty that we described our problem or situation clearly enough or that psychologist is going to understand and correctly interpret our text
  • Sometimes the core of the problem is lack of direct contact with other people, isolation and withdrawal from social interaction. In that case on-line help is not recommended
